As a nurse extern with WellSpan, you’ll gain enhanced exposure to acute care nursing and enhanced experiential learning to improve your clinical competence and skills. You’ll work side by side with your designated preceptor, a department manager and a learning and development specialist as a valued member of the team. A nine-week externship program is filled twice a year in the summer and in the winter for senior-level nursing students. Positions for application will be posted from September to January.
WellSpan’s flexible nurse internship program is a rolling program and students can start any time during their senior year. You’ll work a minimum of one 8-hour shift every two weeks under the direct supervision of an experienced RN preceptor. This paid program is open to senior nursing students who have completed a medical/surgical clinical rotation in an accredited nursing program.
Nursing students can gain valuable experience as a nursing assistant, medical assistant or physician office technician in a full-time, part-time or PRN role. Flexible scheduling can be tailored to your school schedule, so you can gain experience in the field as you learn in the classroom.
