Location: Ephrata Community Hospital, Ephrata, PA
Schedule: Full Time

Full Time, Day Shift (80 hours Biweekly)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 3:30pm (Additional shifts as needed)
Rotation: on call week nights, weekends, holidays
Will be crossed trained in our procedure dept for ENDO.

General Summary

Assists other members of the surgical team in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care. Performs a variety of tasks such as, shaving and transporting patients, assisting with positioning of patient for procedure, care and handling of all equipment, assisting with the ordering, receiving, and stocking of supplies, performing clerical tasks and completing errands. The patient care encompasses all age groups (neonate to the elderly) focusing on the patient's care, treatment and rehabilitation.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs a variety of tasks such as, shaving and transporting patients, assisting with positioning of patient for procedure, care and handling of all equipment, assisting with the ordering, receiving, and stocking of supplies, performing clerical tasks and completing errands.
  • Creates a safe, private environment for patient, family/significant other, visitors and members of the health care team.
  • Works in a collaborative manner in addressing patient care issues maintaining open communications with the charge nurse. Supports the charge nurse in ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality, cost-effective holistic patient care.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technological advances within area of practice as well as in surgical services
  • Cleans, distributes and or delivers equipment to the Operating Rooms on a regular basis.
  • Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis.
  • Obtains and returns required equipment.
  • Sets up and removes equipment and supplies; ensures equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.

Common Expectations:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Understands, supports, and practices the guidelines, standards of care and recommended practices set forth by the professional nursing organizations and other associate organizations and agencies as well as the hospital and departmental policy/procedures; universal/standard precautions; safety and risk management protocols; occupational safety regulations.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

  • Less than 1 year Nursing assistance or emergency medical technician experience or equivalent. Required

Licenses:

  • Basic Life Support within 1 year Required
