Medical Director-Primary Care Service Line, North Region

Location: WellSpan Medical Group, York, PA
Schedule: Full Time

General Summary

Provides medical direction and leadership for clinical quality and appropriateness of care, operational efficiency, scheduling, performance improvement, and documentation for clinical specialty. In collaboration with Service Line leadership, physician will review quality, adequacy, and appropriateness of services within the department.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Work cooperatively and supportively within their Specialty/Service Line, related practices, and entity leadership teams on strategic planning initiatives which represent clinically integrated care across the system. Physician will work with the practices on implementation of the strategic plan ensuring services are available, cost effective, and meet quality and regulatory guidelines
  • Assist in providing guidance within their Specialty/Service Line including policies, staffing, services, scheduling, quality assurance monitoring, education, and communication.
  • Assist their Specialty/Service Line and Service Line Operations in an efficient and expeditious operation of the practices, providing input on budgets, scheduling, billing, equipment, staffing and yearly goals and objectives.
  • Provide clinical leadership and overall supervision of all practitioners associated with the team, in collaboration with the Specialty/Service Line.
  • Provide guidance in the development of treatment protocols for their Specialty/Service Line patients and monitor appropriate use.
  • Promote/ensure patient satisfaction in all areas of patient care delivery.
  • Intercede and provide counseling, re-training, direction, and discipline to practitioners regarding quality and productivity issues.
  • Assist the Service Line with interviewing and selecting physicians and advanced practice providers.
  • Provide direct patient care as a member of their Specialty/Service Line team.
  • Participate in Quality-of-Care initiatives and peer review.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in performing annual evaluation for physicians board-certified within their Specialty/Service Line and advanced practice providers.
  • Orient new providers and monitor their ongoing compliance with policies and procedures.

Common Expectations:

  • Promote teamwork and participation in development and maintenance of quality improvement programs.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings with physicians and advanced practice providers.
  • Actively participate in the growth of their Specialty/Service Line services and maintain professional membership as appropriate.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required or
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Required

Work Experience:

  • Experience in healthcare administration. Required

Licenses:

  • Licensed Medical Physician and Surgeon Upon Hire Required or
  • Licensed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Upon Hire Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent human relations and oral/written communications skills.
  • Proven managerial skills.
