Medical Director-Employee Health and Safety

Location: WellSpan Medical Group, York, PA
Schedule: Part Time

General Summary

Develops and implements occupational health programs and provides clinical guidance in collaboration with the Senior Director-Employee Health and Safety. Administers and directs the activities of assigned personnel. Provides occupational health services and care to WellSpan employees and volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, designs and implements occupational health programs for employees. Provides technical assistance on occupational health issues.
  • Identifies patient needs and develops quality programs to meet those needs. Ensures delivery of quality services for patients.
  • Provides clinical supervision to physician and non-physician staff within the department.
  • Provides direct patient care and medical case management services and otherwise performs the duties of an Occupational Medicine Staff Physician, to include but not limited to Workers' compensation injuries, new hire health screenings, DOT medical examinations, health surveillance program screening, Fitness-for-Duty evaluations, and other employee health services as needed.
  • Develops and presents occupational health related education programs to employees and collaborating departments.

Common Expectations:

  • Establishes and maintains department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in Medical Staff activities as required and/or as requested.
  • Observes the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Hospital and the Medical Staff.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Travel Requirements:

  • Estimated Amount: 10% - Provide Employee Health clinic availability in each of the WellSpan care regions monthly or as requested.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Required or
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required

Work Experience:

  • 2 years Recent Occupational Health experience Preferred

Licenses:

  • Licensed Medical Physician and Surgeon Upon Hire Required or
  • Licensed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Upon Hire Required and
  • Certified Medical Examiner Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

  • Certification by appropriate Board Upon Hire Required and
  • Completion of an appropriate residency program Upon Hire Required and
  • Must qualify and be a member of the Medical Staff of a WellSpan Hospital Upon Hire Required and
  • Must qualify as a Medical Review Officer (MRO) under U.S. Department of Transportation 49 CFR Part 40 Upon Hire Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Clinical skills and knowledge of emergency medicine techniques and occupational medicine
  • Teaching skills
