General Summary
Provides comprehensive medical nutrition therapy of patients and is responsible for the supervision of clinical dietitians, dietetic technicians and nutrition systems clerks.
Essential Functions:
Assists in ensuring the competent provision of medical nutrition therapy to patients.
Assists the Director-Clinical Nutrition in policy and procedure development, maintenance and implementation pertaining to the delivery of medical nutrition therapy.
Assists with submitting reports of department operations and activities as required or requested.
Assists in maintaining approved personnel needs for clinical nutrition, including the hiring, orientation, training, performance evaluations, documentation, counseling, and in-service program of employees, thus ensuring competent staff.
Plans, approves and implements patient menu revisions in coordination with the Director-Clinical Nutrition.
Supervises and coordinates Clinical Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, ensuring adequate staffing and providing a communication link to the Director-Clinical Nutrition.
Completes Medical Nutrition Therapy according to established standards.
Documents in Electronic Medical Records in a clear, comprehensive, concise manner.
Coordinates clinical nutrition Quality Improvement Program with the Director-Clinical Nutrition, including development and monitoring of quality indicators, reports and attendance at hospital-wide Quality Improvement Committee meetings.
Participates in interdisciplinary facility-based committees and meetings.
Provides education and in-service to employees.
Investigates new trends in diet therapy, and assesses for appropriateness, in coordination with the Director-Clinical Nutrition.
Common Expectations:
In coordination with the Director-Clinical Nutrition, selects, trains/orients, assigns staff, evaluates performance, prepares work schedules and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
In coordination with the Director-Clinical Nutrition, develops department budget. Monitors variance against budget.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
Maintains appropriate records, reports, and files as required.
Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Assists the Director-Clinical Nutrition in preparation for facility accreditation.
Coordinates medical nutrition therapy supervised practice for dietetic interns.
Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Bachelors Degree Preferably in dietetics or related field. Required
Work Experience:
5 years Experience in an acute care facility. Required and
Experience in Medical Nutrition Therapy. Required
Supervisory/instructional techniques. Preferred
Licenses:
Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist Upon Hire Required and
Registered Dietitian / Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Upon Hire Required
Courses and Training:
Completion of AND approved postgraduate training program. Upon Hire Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of foods/nutrition.
