Schedule Full Time, Day Shift (80 hours biweekly) Hours: Day shift schedule, 8 or 10 hour shifts Float between outpatient and Ephrata Community Hospital
General Summary
Performs duties that include, but are not limited to, procedure room setup, pre-procedure inspection/testing of all equipment used during a host of GI procedures (e.g., colonoscopy, EGD, ERCP, EUS, etc.), room cleaning, room stocking, and room preparation for the next patient. Assists the physician and/or nursing staff by providing direct and indirect patient care during the procedure. Maintains and demonstrates clinical competency.
Essential Functions:
Ensures that required endoscopic equipment and supplies are set up, inspected, and tested prior to procedure.
Trouble-shoots all equipment and enters appropriate work orders as needed.
Assists the physician and/or nursing staff with the collection and labeling of tissue biopsy samples.
Competently uses electrocautery and hemostatic devices, to include clip deployment.
Under direct supervision of the physician, assists with submucosal injection of medications, lifting agents, or marking agents. Demonstrates and maintains competency in use of the injector needle and injection procedure.
Cleans, restocks, and prepares the procedure room for the next patient, including anesthesia supplies, as needed. Prepares the room for end of day cleaning.
Assists with the reprocessing of all endoscopic equipment, according to the standards of the entity.
Assists the nursing staff with the admission/recovery of patients, within their scope of practice, and provides transportation of patients as needed.
Is an integral member of the team in which ensures safety measures are followed by actively participating in the endoscopy and fire safety timeouts, as well as the final debrief performed after the procedure.

Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff by complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
Complies with and facilitates writing of position specific standard work.
Actively participates in department huddles.
Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Participates in educational programs and in-services.
Assists with precepting new staff to the GI Tech role as needed.
Attends meetings as required.
Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED Required
Work Experience:
No experience. Required
Licenses:
Heartsaver CPR/AED Upon Hire Required
Certified Nurse Aide Upon Hire Preferred
Courses and Training:
6-12 months OJT in the use of GI equipment. Upon Hire Required
