Director Government Relations

Location: WellSpan Health, York, PA
Schedule: Full Time

General Summary

Helps implement and evaluate government relations and legislative affairs strategies across all systems of care and System-wide functions. Works to establish and maintain positive relationships with elected officials at the state, county, and municipal level. Serves as a government relations liaison; identifies and helps pursue sources of government funding; regularly communicates the goals, priorities, accomplishments, and challenges of WellSpan Health and its operating entities; and enhances the profile of WellSpan Health among elected and administrative officials.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with the Vice President and Government Relations Officer to identify priorities and determine strategy and appropriate roles for WellSpan in matters of public policy and advocacy.
  • Regularly scans internal and external environment and proactively identifies policy issues and opportunities that would impact the system's reputation and strategic objectives.
  • Enhances WellSpan's profile among elected and administrative officials by regularly engaging and maintaining positive relationships with elected officials at the state, county, and municipal levels.
  • Manages WellSpan's Chamber memberships, ensures active participations and facilitates information sharing between the Chambers and WellSpan leaders.
  • Educates internal audience on legislative issues at the federal, state, county, and municipal level.
  • Facilitates both in-person and webinar discussions on related policy topics.
  • Develops a range of high-quality written materials, including policy reports and organizational comments and statements for the record responding to county, state, and federal policy issues.
  • Works to enhance WellSpan's profile among elected and administrative officials; identifies opportunities for funding at the state and federal level and for WellSpan representation on committees, taskforces and initiatives that align with system priorities.
  • Helps maintain an advocacy network within WellSpan.
  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism and represents WellSpan positively in all interactions; advances diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at WellSpan Health.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • 5 years In a government affairs role. Required or
  • 5 years Experience in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Relations, or Communications. Required
  • 5 years In a government affairs role with an elected official or health-focused committee at the state or national level or in a large, complex non-profit organization. Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written/oral communications, interpersonal and organizational skills, and computer skills.
  • Strong journalistic writing, copyediting and project management skills.
