Communications Specialist-Senior

Location: WellSpan Health, York, PA

Monday- Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hybrid position

General Summary

Supports the development and execution of strategic communications initiatives that reinforce our brand and system narrative, engage key audiences and support WellSpan's priorities. This role will have a proven track record in crafting clear, compelling communications across multiple channels and an ability to manage high-impact projects with both strategic understanding and strong tactical execution.

Duties and Responsibilities

Remote Work Capable

Essential Functions:

  • Plans, edits and writes content for a variety of internal and external audiences for various communications mediums, such as the intranet, emails and social media.
  • Develops change management plans to assess business readiness, align stakeholders and inspire action.
  • Coordinates the execution plan for special projects, special events and meetings to meet system goals and objectives.
  • Participates in assessing the quality and effectiveness of communication efforts and contributes ideas for future activities.
  • Continuously scans the internal and external environment/industry trends, understands the organization's major strategic and operating priorities and helps to identify and recommend relevant communications opportunities to support organizational change and engage team members, stakeholders and members of the community.
  • Collaborates with team members who oversee media relations, sponsorships, special events, and social media to help develop and execute tactical activities outlined in existing plans including the drafting of news releases, patient or team member stories, on-site sponsorships opportunities, social media posts, presentations, etc.
  • Supports crisis and disaster plans as needed.
  • Aids in the creative execution of communication activities to enhance team member engagement, and provider and public engagement, including online/social content, articles, blog posts, podcasts, presentations, etc.
  • Responsible for arranging photography and videography of system functions and other related activities.
  • Utilizes strong project management skills to achieve plan objectives and meet deadlines.

Travel Requirements:

  • Estimated Amount: 5% - Occasional travel required to system locations.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree In Communications, Journalism or related field. Required

Work Experience:

  • 2 years Experience in communications or related field. Required
  • Communications experience in a large, complex healthcare organization. Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to apply communications strategies to high-level organizational priorities.
  • Critical thinking, superior journalistic writing and solid interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of AP Style and the ability to quickly adapt to the system's brand style.
  • Excellent proofreading and writing skills.
  • Strong project management abilities.
  • Capacity to handle multiple assignments independently.
  • Sense of urgency and responsiveness and ability to maintain a rigorous content calendar.
  • Strategic thinking and proactive approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized and adaptable.
  • High-energy, positive attitude with a collaborative work style.
  • Professional demeanor, commitment to discretion and confidentiality.
