Clinical Quality Improvement Coordinator

General Summary

Uses data for healthcare quality and safety measures to review for trends and gaps related to documentation of clinical practice, established clinical staff quality improvement procedure and peer review indicators, and quality performance. Elevates and communicates gaps and opportunities with improvement recommendations through established channels to improve care quality and safety. Prepares and organizes information for meetings and audit visits and assists in coordination of deliverables. Participates in development and implementation of quality assessment indicators. Provides project management for selected planning and operational implementation of quality initiatives, developing project work plans, impact and communicating progress and any identified risks. Covers all responsibilities for peers in their absence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Provides project oversight, including planning, scheduling, vendor management, risk assessment, change management, time management, interpersonal leadership skills, and project control.
  • Apply process improvement principles and quality improvement tools and techniques to identified processes/systems/ tasks.
  • Creates timelines and deliverables for workflow development, implementation and monitoring for selected quality measures.
  • Compiles data for and prepares regularly scheduled or special reports, analyses and statements.
  • Educates to measure definitions when sharing data. Facilitates conversations and assists staff to identify and translate quality outcomes into a change in practice (e.g., policy, procedure, process, protocol, etc.).
  • Researches and analyzes requests (using knowledge of the system network and internal and external resources) for possible process improvement/quality improvement opportunities, as assigned by the Director, VPMA, or Regional Director.
  • Provides consultation regarding data analysis and interpretation to clinicians, leadership and others. Works collaboratively to provide consistent, meaningful information to all levels of the organization, including the information provided to the Hospital Board of Directors.
  • Uses problem analysis skills and critical thinking to collect and analyze data, propose solutions, develop and write reports, letters and materials needed to achieve desirable results as requested. Able to manage advanced database and spreadsheet applications (e.g., formulas, linking calculations, graphing and reporting) as well as web-based systems needed to obtain or manage clinical information.

  • Routinely performs professional clinical improvement assessments in all job aspects. Participates in Performance Improvement projects to enhance quality and streamline workflow.
  • Assists with fulfilling meeting duties such as preparing and sharing meeting minutes and organizing meeting materials.
  • Assists and supports quality improvement projects throughout the hospital by utilizing LEAN methodologies to evaluate, gathering data as requested, and displaying results in a meaningful fashion.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree Required or
  • Associates Degree A Graduate of an accredited nursing program Required

Work Experience:

  • 2 years Relevant experience. Required and
  • Experience in Performance Improvement or Healthcare quality assurance. Required

Licenses:

  • Registered Health Information Administrator Upon Hire Preferred and
  • Certified Health Data Analyst Upon Hire Preferred and
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality Upon Hire Preferred and
  • Licensed Registered Nurse Upon Hire Preferred or
  • Registered Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Preferred

Courses and Training:

  • Licensure as a medical professional. Upon Hire Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team player.
  • Excellent computer skills, including word processing, internet, data entry, and spreadsheet use.
  • Able to conceptualize and convey the importance/impact of data integrity in terms of patient management, study results, cost efficiency, quality of service, and the goals of clinical improvement and related project management.
  • PDSA knowledge.
  • Excellent prioritization and organizational skills.
