PRN (On Call As Needed)

Shift: Days - 8 hour shifts

Sunday-Saturday (6a-4p)

Position Function: Under the direction of the Chief Cardiovascular Technician, provides patient testing in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Hospital and Cardiovascular Services.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Maintains a neat, clean , safe environment for patients and staff; communicates to housekeeping as needed.
2. Routinely demonstrates competency and adherence to all organizational safety directives and P&Ps including, but not limited to: Fire, "Right to know" (MSDS), HIPAA, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control, Life Safety (Utilities), and department specific procedures as evidenced in daily performance of job functions and successful response to drills and incidents.
3. Verbalizes understanding of the Hospital's quality model and quality tools.
4. Wears ID badge at all times; wears radiation badge at all times.
5. Demonstrates ability to perform a 12-lead EKG. Demonstrates proper patient prep and accurate electrode placement.
6. Demonstrates ability to perform stress testing. Demonstrates proper patient prep, IV hook-up and accurate electrode placement.
7. Demonstrates ability to perform Holter monitor patient hook up. Demonstrates proper patient prep, accurate electrode placement and providing patient with instructions.
8. Consistently obtains high-quality cardiographic tracings on EKGs, stress testing, Holter recordings. Recognizes artifact and demonstrates knowledge in correcting/eliminating the artifact.
9. Routinely performs Holter Monitor scanning and report finalization per department procedure; evaluates measurement output for accuracy and identifies/reports performance data in the patient worksheet/record.
10. Identifies potentially dangerous or life threatening arrhythmias and notifies Cardiologist immediately.
11. Evaluates, recognizes/identifies and documents ECG or related abnormalities during diagnostic testing procedures or tracing reviews; promptly communicates abnormalities to physician by noting name, date and time. Documents communications in the patient record.
12. Performs procedures in accordance with established departmental policy and procedure; assures accuracy for proper test interpretation, recognizing the importance and relationship to patient care.
13. Understands and applies age/population-related physiological/anatomical differences when performing tests.
14. Verifies correct procedure by checking physician's orders on chart and/or requisition.
15. Verifies correct patient by following department/hospital's patient identification policy.
16. Accurately enters, updates, and edits ITS clinical/demographic/technical information; utilizes EMR functions correctly.
17. Explains the testing procedures to be performed to the patient; giving explanations that are easily understood by patients, family or significant others.
18. Assists patients in preparation for testing; helps patients to undress, as necessary; provides gowns, sheets or enclosures to insure privacy to all patients. Requests unathorized individuals to vacate the area.
19. Obtains a thorough medical history from patient to include present symptoms, medications, allergies, and family history; documents.
20. Independently performs duties assigned; seeks guidance and direction as necessary.
21. Demonstrates a willingness to accommodate overtime requirements or changing priorities in the workplace.
22. Observes, records, and reports any changes in the patient's condition and/or behavior, prior to and/or after procedure to the physician.
23. Recognizes and responds to priorities in departmental duties, (i.e., EKGs); adapts to changes in the workload.
24. Organizes testing schedule; prioritizes inpatients, and schedules outpatients to accommodate workload.
25. Ensures that supplies and equipment necessary for patient care are stored in an organized and efficient manner.
26. Prepares patient testing room, equipment, and supplies used in test procedures.
27. Places completed tests in interpreting physician's reading que.
28. In Meditech, enters orders noting accuracy of information-correct patient name, correct medical record number, birth date, ordering physician, and account number. Edits orders to the correct status to bill procedure. Amends orders, as needed, to correct date, procedure, ordering physician and/or reason for exam.
29. In MUSE, demonstrates competence in EDITING EKGs with attention to accuracy in patient name, HSM number, order & account, test reason, acquiring tech, location, date of birth, test date/time and ordering physician; SENDING an EKG to a MUSE In-basket; RETRIEVING an EKG; PRINT/FAX an EKG. Demonstrate knowledge in the steps to correct an EKG with a MIS-MATCH.
30. Receives requests for scheduling of Cardiovascular Services procedures. Effectively uses Meditech Community Wide Scheduling system to complete requests received from patients, physician's offices, nursing homes, nursing floors. Schedules Cardiovascular Services procedures appropriately and accurately with attention to ordering physician and diagnosis in accordance with departmental guidelines. Instructs as appropriate on required preps for requested procedures.
31. Recognizes and performs duties to assist coworkers with procedures (i.e. Bubble Study under the direction of Echo Tech) as assigned; follows directions accurately.
32. Competently illustrates and demonstrates EKG recording methods and function to students/employees as needed. Works well within the Cardiovascular student program.
33. Completes ERFs/injury reports accurately and within 24 hours.
34. Performs duties in an independent manner with little or no need for direct supervision.
35. Creates a positive experience for patients, families, and co-workers by using customer service skills in daily work routine.
36. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Standards

Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Successful completion of a Cardiovascular Technologist Program or the equivalent in cardiovascular work experience with completion of the "Basic EKG" course within one year of hire for those hired before April 29, 2021. Hires April 29, 2021 and after must complete the Basic EKG course within 60 days of hire.

Experience: Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required. Completion of a Cardiovascular Technologist program or one year experience in cardiac diagnostic testing modalities required.

Certifications/Licensure: CPR certification required.
