General Summary

Performs a variety of clinical and administrative duties related to clinical staff management, training support, customer service, quality measures, and direct patient care. Oversees the daily operation & maintenance of the EKG database system for Central region EKG sites. Performs electrocardiograph, stress tests and other testing utilizing clinical knowledge and professional judgment within the parameters of professional and departmental standards and protocols.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the daily operation of the York Hospital Cardiac Stress Testing sites.
  • Supervises the routine operation of the ECG database system and the ECG and Stress Testing systems for the Central Region.
  • Monitors EKG database, EKG units and cardiac stress system hardware/software failures, initiates corrective action and interfaces with Biomed and vendors for problem solutions.
  • Possess the knowledge and skill level to administer treadmill and pharmacological protocols for stress tests which includes: monitor, record, and interpret EKG tracing for diagnostic purposes, determine appropriate testing protocol, recognize presence of permanent pace maker, calculate and record diagnostic parameters, monitor and evaluate patient tolerance to test including chest pain and submits test to physician. Communicates all pertinent information related to testing procedure.
  • Responsible for patient safety including recognizing cardiac arrhythmias and respond per emergency protocols utilizing BLS skills and obtaining emergency medical equipment.
  • Provides care to patient: obtain history, assess patient condition, collect and interpret clinical information for appropriateness for ordered test, explain procedure, obtain consent, provide personal care.
  • Performs electrocardiograms. Possesses knowledge of rhythm recognition to notify physician of abnormal EKG.
  • Performs Holter Monitor scanning, EEG's, and EECP at certain locations.
  • Fulfills the EKG Coordinator role at certain locations (separate job description for those duties).
  • Performs patient account administrative Billing adjustments for Non-Invasive Cardiology and H&V Research Department.
  • Serves as a resource for the WS medical group and WS outpatient sites on the operation of the EKG database and EKG units.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communications skills in the Team Leader role. Communicates in a clear, professional, and effective manner with staff on a regular basis. Keeps direct reports up to date on all operations of the services provided.
  • Effectively manages performance of subordinates in the department, including such activities as coaching, counseling, giving positive feedback, documenting significant events per established System Human Resource policy, and may be responsible for staff annual performance reviews.
  • May be responsible for staff scheduling and payroll data entry.
  • Responsible for planning, implementation, and coordination of training for CST staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Maintains appropriate records and files. Resolves errors and provides training for error resolution.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with ancillary departments to facilitate problem solving and continuous process improvement.
  • Facilitates and/or participates in staff meetings and attends other meetings as appropriate.
  • Maintains clinical information: enter and retrieve patient data from pertinent software applications.
  • Maintains operational knowledge of Noninvasive Cardiology equipment with ability to troubleshoot this equipment.
  • Competent with charging, scheduling, and navigating in EMR as it relates to the workflow specific to stress testing, EKG's and other procedures done at certain locations.
  • Knowledgeable in supply management.
  • Collaborates with Non-Invasive Leadership for equipment assessment, new equipment implementation, workflow efficiencies, and performance improvement initiatives.

  • Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department. Compliant with ACC/AHA clinical guidelines. Maintains established policies and procedures, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, attends in-services, and staff meetings as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Certificate Program In Cardiovascular Technologist program or Exercise Science or related field. Required or
  • Associates Degree In Cardiovascular Technologist program or Exercise Science or related field. Required

Work Experience:

  • 5 years As a Cardiac Stress Technician or Exercise Physiologist. Required
  • Leadership experience. Preferred

Licenses:

  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
  • Certified Cardiographic Technician Upon Hire Preferred or
  • Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist Upon Hire Preferred
