Capital and Fixed Asset Accountant

General Summary

Oversees the financial and accounting transactions related to capital planning, purchasing, and asset management. Provides financial support and works collaboratively with financial & operational management in capital planning and fixed asset management.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Records and maintains capital information in planning and accounting system in accordance with corporate approval policies.
  • Maintains balanced annual capital budget in planning and accounting system.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and adjusts projects for cost increases, decreases, and reimbursements.
  • Records entries within the subledger to account for cost adjustments.
  • Creates and monitors a system of controls, procedures, and forms for the recordation of capital purchase costs.
  • Records fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system.
  • Tracks the compilation of project costs into fixed asset accounts, and closes out those accounts once the related projects have been completed.
  • Reviews and updates the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation.
  • Calculates asset retirement obligations for those fixed assets to which AROs are applicable.
  • Performs job responsibilities in accordance with policies and procedures to ensure that the internal control structure is maintained. Assists in helping accounting associates remain compliant with policies and procedures.
  • Compiles data for and prepares regularly scheduled or special reports, analyses, and financial statements.
  • Assists independent auditors with interim and year-end audit(s), primarily pulling supporting documentation.

  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment and safety standards and recommends changes to improve the accounting function.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, staff meetings and workshops.
  • Provides ad-hoc financial analysis and reports to Management as requested.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree Finance, Accounting or related field Required

Work Experience:

  • 3 years of capital and/or fixed asset accounting experience Required

Licenses:

  • Certified Public Accountant Upon Hire Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and computer skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Able to work well in a team dynamic.
