Medical Director-Home Health

Location: WellSpan Medical Group, York, PA

General Summary

As the Medical Director for WellSpan Care in the Home programs, the role involves providing expert oversight and guidance in medical decision-making, fulfilling regulatory responsibilities for WellSpan VNA, and collaborating closely with the Associate CMO to advance care in alignment with strategic goals. This position entails supervising Advanced Practice Providers, leading quality improvement initiatives, ensuring seamless coordination of care, and fostering positive provider relations. The incumbent stays updated on industry trends and regulatory requirements, participates in interdisciplinary collaboration, and optimizes resource utilization to ensure efficient delivery of care.

Essential Functions:

  • As the Medical Director for WellSpan Care in the Home programs, post-acute care, and Hospice, providing oversight and guidance in medical decision-making.
  • Serves as the Medical Director for WellSpan VNA, fulfilling all regulatory responsibilities associated with the role including leading its professional advisory council.
  • Report directly to the Associate CMO, maintaining open communication channels for efficient workflow and decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Post-Acute and Continuing Care, to ensure advancement of care in the home programs in alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with and provide supervision to WellSpan at Home Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
  • Provide leadership in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety projects across all areas within the scope of the role, working closely with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Engage with service lines to ensure integration and coordination of care, promoting a seamless continuum of services for patients receiving care in the home setting.
  • Foster positive provider relations by offering support, education, and resources to enhance clinical practices and patient outcomes.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, evidence-based practices, and regulatory requirements related to home-based care, post-acute services, and Hospice, and incorporate best practices into program development and implementation.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, committees, and task forces to contribute expertise and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration in achieving organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with other departments to optimize resource utilization and ensure efficient delivery of care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Required or
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required

Work Experience:

  • 5 years Experience in Healthcare. Required and
  • 2 years Experience in Leadership. Required

Licenses:

  • Licensed Medical Physician and Surgeon Upon Hire Required or
  • Licensed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

  • Diplomate of an appropriate specialty board. Upon Hire Required and
  • Completion of an appropriate residency program. Upon Hire Required and
  • Must qualify and be a member of the Medical Staff of a WellSpan Hospital. Upon Hire Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, verbal and written skills, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior leadership, physicians, and other healthcare providers as well as multidisciplinary teams across department lines.
  • Must possess strong project and change management skills, requires critical thinking, conceptual thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of health care issues and process improvement concepts.
