Sterile Processing Technician - General Central Sterile - Evenings

Location: Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA
Schedule: Part Time

Position Function: Under the supervision and/or direction of the Manager of Sterile Processing or designee, processes (from decontamination to terminal sterilization) and distributes all reusable supplies and equipment throughout the hospital.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Recognizes and responds to priority in the patient care process.
2. Performs duties accurately, recognizing their importance and relationship to patient care.
3. Maintains flexibility in hours of work and changes in assignments.
4. Participates in cross-training as assigned.
5. Attends 80% of all staff meetings.
6. Processes incoming implant instruments/trays from vendors and distributes for scheduled cases. Reprocesses same after completion of case and makes ready for shipment/pick-up.
7. Utilizes proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self and others.
8. Facilitates and assists with new employee orientation.

Qualifications and Standards

Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Formal training in sterile processing or surgical technology preferred. Annually must complete 10 hours of continuing education.

Experience: Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required. Experience within the past two (2) years in instrument processing or sterile technique required, or successful completion of a sterile processing or surgical technologist program, or successful completion of recognized online sterile processing modules or classes within six months of hire or transfer date. Computer literacy preferred.

Certification by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) is required within 18 months of hire.
