Patient Care Technician-Dialysis - Day

Location: WellSpan Health, York, PA
Schedule: Full Time

General Summary

Provides hemodialysis treatments in a safe and efficient manner.

Hours: Part time opportunity

12 hours/week minimum commitment, 24 hours/week maximum

Shift: 7am -7pm, Monday thru Saturday availability with Sunday call requirement

Patient Care experience preferred

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Accurately prepares supplies and equipment, primes a dialysis machine and initiates and discontinues dialysis.
  • Demonstrates the ability to cannulate a dialysis access and identifies appropriate therapy for access complications.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in conducting and monitoring dialysis treatments.
  • Uses appropriate observation techniques, demonstrates proficiency in documentation and appropriately notifies the RN
  • Assists in taking action and responds quickly and appropriately when the patient's condition changes.
  • Correctly draws lab studies and reports abnormal results to the RN.
  • Cleans and disinfects equipment pre and post dialysis.
  • Demonstrates aseptic and sterile techniques.
  • Checks patient's vital signs.
  • Transports patients.

  • Recognizes and, under the direction of the RN, assists with appropriate action for dialysis complications.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patients, visitors, and all disciplines of the dialysis team.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Certificate Program CNA or other medical background. Preferred

Work Experience:

  • Less than 1 year Relevant experience. Required

Licenses:

  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician within 1-1/2 years Required and
  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
