Paralegal

Location: WellSpan Health, York, PA
Schedule: Full Time

General Summary

Under the general supervision of the Associate General Counsel, assumes increasing responsibility for providing legal support to the department attorneys for various WellSpan Health activities and issues, such as physician contracting, business transactions, contract negotiation/drafting/review, HIPAA, privacy and security, real estate transactions, tax-exemption, payor contracting, and policy development and review. Exercises diplomatic communications and excellent client relations, promoting positive and effective working relationship with all contacts. Work product is self-directed and requires significant independent judgment and discretion, sound organizational and analytical skills, and minimal supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews, redlines, and otherwise prepares vendor, customer, nondisclosure, lease, employment, and other agreements
  • Reviews and prepares policies, procedures, and other operational documents
  • Facilitates and compiles stakeholder reviews of complex agreements from internal departments, as necessary
  • Identifies business and legal risks associated with commercial terms and propose and help to implement mitigation strategies
  • Develops training, processes and policies associated with regulatory and corporate functions.
  • Maintains and improves existing templates for contracts and other documents and prepare additional templates as needed
  • Assists with and supports project management, process design, and the creation of standard work for various legal team initiatives
  • Provides support for the legal team's daily work internally and in relation to other departments within the organization
  • Provides support for system-wide legal compliance including, but not limited to, efforts relating to policies and contracts as well as HIPAA privacy and security, fraud and abuse laws, CMS rules, and other healthcare regulatory laws.
  • Works in partnership with other members of the legal team to achieve established goals of the department.
  • Demonstrates effective management of own time by setting deadlines and completing commitments within negotiated timeframes.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential records and documentation.
  • Initiates and manages a logical and efficient filing system to ensure ease and expeditious retrieval of information.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with System core values, Code of Conduct, confidentiality obligations and other policies and procedures
  • Provides common sense solutions to operational issues
  • Identifies legal and operational concerns and brings them to the attention of the appropriate member of the legal team.
  • Conducts legal research, as assigned
  • Other duties, as assigned

  • Demonstrates clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications skills, including an emphasis on grammar and formatting.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • 5 years Experience in Corporate law. Required
  • Healthcare law. Preferred

Courses and Training:

  • Paralegal training/certificate Upon Hire Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Proficient in legal research and Microsoft Office tools such as Word and Excel.
  • Self-motivated and flexible.
  • Able to learn quickly and work without supervision.
