General Summary

Manages the food-related services to patient care areas throughout the organization, coordinating staffing assignments on daily work shifts to provide adequate coverage for departmental operations. Supports departmental Patient Services staff to ensure accuracy, efficiency and quality of services, ensuring that safety, sanitation, and quality documentation tools are completed as required. Provides high quality customer service, as reflected by patient satisfaction survey results.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensures that all staff demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with staff and customers throughout the organization.

  • Ensures compliance with hospital and departmental policies for safety, sanitation, isolation and uniform standards, as well as for attendance, including appropriate notification.
  • Manages daily staffing and adjusts schedule accordingly to provide adequate coverage in all areas of department operations; manages work shift and break times of staff to ensure timely and efficient execution of department operations.
  • Provides direct support for patient services operations when coverage is needed due to staffing shortages.
  • Communicates to Director or designee any issues relating to staff performance and daily operations. Collaborates with the Director in evaluation and disciplinary processes.
  • Uses Epic system to generate designated reports, processes and analyzes information and distributes as directed; utilizes assigned SpectraLink mobile phone and answers phone calls (x102-7355) live.
  • Generates and distributes inpatient diet lists and tray tickets for Catering Associates prior to each meal service. Communicates any special service needs to Catering Associates. Monitors the service to patients by Catering Associates, including menu selections, tray assembly, delivery and pickup, nourishment delivery, and floor stock service.
  • Ensures safe food handling and storage procedures are followed and documented for Patient Services trayline area, including completion of all applicable temperature and sanitation logs. Documents that equipment meets operational standards of performance. Communicates any issues to Director or designee.
  • Monitors patient food quality by working with departmental Patient Services trayline area, including completion of all applicable temperature and sanitation logs. Documents that equipment meets operational standards of performance. Communicates any issues to Director or designee.
  • Coordinates patient trayline operations and provides support services during meal periods. Ensures that trayline area is adequately restocked and that sanitation guidelines are followed by Patient Services, Utility, and Production staff.
  • Promotes a positive relationship between Patient Services and Food & Nutrition department. Conducts visitation rounds on assigned units, communicates with nursing staff, and performs service recovery as needed. Completes Unit Kitchen Sanitation Check List as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management, the Director of Food & Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition Manager, or designee.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

  • Less than 1 year Management Required
  • Healthcare or Food Service Preferred

Licenses:

  • Certified ServSafe within 1 year Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write, understand and speak English at a level which enables the individual to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job.
