MRI Assistant - Magnetic Resonance Imaging - Evening

Location: Ephrata Community Hospital, Ephrata, PA
Schedule: Full Time

Full Time, Evening Shift (80 hours Biweekly)
Hours: Monday - Friday, 3:00pm - 11:00pm
Rotation: Saturday Rotation every 6th weekend

General Summary

Works under the general supervision of the technical team of the department. This position assists the technologist in all non-technical aspects of imaging examinations including but not limited to assisting with the movement of patients, positioning, recording histories, documentation of imaging procedures, compiling films and properly submitting the images for interpretation. Contributes to total patient care by accessing pertinent patient information and histories, release of information, general housekeeping and other duties as needed. Maintains all standards of conduct and ethics as outlined in the patient care division and department expectations.

Essential Functions:

  • Correctly identifies patients through obtaining and verifying thorough and accurate data and documents.
  • Assists technologist to ensure workflow is efficient, prioritizing appropriately.
  • Coordinates the screening process for both MRI units in order to meet the needs of the technologists.
  • Obtains previous studies and/or reports for technologists.
  • Competent on all levels in providing high quality positioning to all patients based on age, sex, weight and demonstrated needs
  • Always completes MRI screening forms thoroughly and documents all findings for patients, visitors.
  • Makes technologists aware of any safety issues identified during the screening process.
  • Follows all MRI Policies and Procedures for medical emergencies and safety at all times.
  • Competent on all levels in providing safe imaging to all patients based on age, sex, competence, weight and demonstrated needs.
  • Ensures that outside studies and reports have been obtained, collates and transports films for reading by the radiologists, and gives patients proper discharge information.
  • Schedules patient studies and completes appropriate paperwork.
  • Tracks patient exam appropriately using the RIS/PACS.
  • Ensures accurate and complete information prior to completing the study in Radiology Information System.

  • Demonstrates responsibility for own standards of practice or areas of responsibility.
  • Assists with covering a shift or same or similar job in another department.
  • Participates in Six Sigma initiatives as requested.
  • Attends required in-services, and actively participates in self education.
  • Maintains required licensures and/or certifications to practice in a professional or clinical role per appropriate law or state board regulations.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

  • 1 year Relevant experience. Required

Licenses:

  • Heartsaver CPR/AED within 180 days Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to use MR equipment, laser printer, tele-radiography, telephone, copier, personal computer, pager, TV, and stereo.
  • Ability to use the Radiology Information System (RIS).
