Food Services Assistant - Ephrata Hospital - Days/Evening

Location: WellSpan Health, Ephrata, PA
Schedule: Part Time

Part Time - .5 - 20 hours per week/40 per pay period

Shifts vary, 6A-2:30P; 10:30A-7P, potential short shifts for some evening 3:30/4P-7P

Rotating weekends/holidays

General Summary

Performs a variety of routine duties related to the preparation and serving of food, along with cleanup tasks, including provides outstanding customer service to patients, staff, and visitors; assembles and delivers patient trays; prepares equipment, foods and beverages and restocks for service in the cafeteria and other retail/café locations; cleans up after meals following established practices and procedures. May operate cash register as needed including receiving payments, balancing the cash drawer after each meal and compiling information for required reports.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Works on central tray line and assists with patient tray set up and preparation.
  • Sets up and serves patient trays in accordance with established schedule and procedures.
  • Prepares, loads, transports, and cleans food carts.
  • Prepares and sets up steam table, serving line and menu board. Obtains and places dishes, serving utensils, hot and cold foods, baked goods, beverages, desserts, and condiments.
  • Reviews menu and prep sheets and assembles food and supplies as needed for daily salad and cold foods preparation.
  • Prepares salad mixes and sandwich spreads such as tuna, chicken and egg salad, involving tasks such as selecting, measuring, grinding, slicing, and mixing ingredients.
  • Prepares salad plates and tossed salads by portioning out mixes and adding salad vegetables as well as cutting and mixing the various salad vegetables.
  • Prepares sandwiches, subs, wraps, salads and specialty items as directed.
  • Prepares hand crafted beverages and specialty drinks as directed.
  • Washes and cuts vegetables and fruits according to procedures.
  • Alerts supervisor to problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies. Detects and reports spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, or other unusual conditions.
  • Carries dishes and foods between kitchen and serving lines and serves food as directed.
  • Operates dishwasher or manually washes all dishes and utensils in accordance to established policies and procedures.
  • Participates in post-meal cleanup tasks as assigned or directed.
  • Collects, processes, and disposes of trash, cans, bottles, and similar debris and transports to disposal area.

Common Expectations:

  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in training, educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to all patient, staff and customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • Wipes off counters and tables; arranges, rearranges, and replenishes items as needed.
  • Cleans the kitchen area and cooking utensils.
  • Operates cash register, as needed, including receiving payment from visitors and staff, balancing the cash drawer after each meal and compiling information for required reports.
  • Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • None Required
  • High School Diploma or GED Preferred

Work Experience:

  • Up to 1 month experience. Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write, understand and speak English at a level which enables the individual to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job.
  • Excellent interpersonal/communications skills and customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures.
