Director - Pharmacy Medication Safety and Compliance

Location: WellSpan Health, York, PA
Schedule: Full Time

General Summary

Responsible for directing and supervising pharmacy compliance and medication safety activities across the pharmacy service line.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Provides guidance on pharmacy regulatory and medication safety needs throughout WellSpan Health.
  • Provides oversight of proper controls and records of controlled substances as required by state and federal law for the WellSpan pharmacy service line.
  • Directs and ensures compliance of controlled substance auditing, investigations, and reporting through oversight of diversion monitoring work across the WellSpan pharmacy service line.
  • Monitors, tracks and trends medication errors, adverse drug events and sentinel events related to medication use systems. Ensures appropriate follow through and implementation of system/process improvements that may be warranted.
  • Assists other pharmacy directors to ensure continuous survey readiness.
  • Directs continual review of existing procedures and systems and makes recommendations for improvement where appropriate.
  • Conducts medication safety and regulatory compliance education for WellSpan staff members.
  • Ensures each facility is aware of regulatory changes impacting pharmacy services.
  • Participates on committees at WellSpan Health sites and corporate level as required to ensure high quality medication management practices.
  • Participates in quality, safety, and performance initiatives related to medication use at organization, department, and facility levels.

Travel Requirements:

  • Estimated Amount: 20% - Travel between hospital sites and central distribution center.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree Pharmacy Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Doctorate Doctor of Pharmacy Degree Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 10+ years As a staff or clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting. Required
  • 5 years Leadership experience as a supervisor or manager. Preferred

Licenses:

  • Licensed Registered Pharmacist Upon Hire Required

Driver's License Statement:

Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.

Courses and Training:

  • Completion of 5 year program accredited school of pharmacy. Upon Hire Required
